About the Great Northern Carousel

the finest handmade carousel in the united states

Established in 2002

Alan Nicholson, the driving force behind the Great Northern Town Center, has cherished carousels since childhood. In 2002, his dream of bringing this joy to Helena and its visitors came to life with the creation of a world-class carousel.

Crafted by renowned Walt Disney World carver, Ed Roth, with stained glass from local artist Mary Harris, our carousel boasts 37 intricately carved animals, 14 Helena-inspired rounding boards, and scenic stained glass artworks.

Praised by the National Carousel Association as one of the nation's finest, our carousel offers a unique ride featuring Montana wildlife like bighorn sheep, buffalo, and grizzly bears. After the exhilarating ride, treat yourself to the best ice cream in Montana.

The carousel also features a charming venue for birthdays, barbecues, and private events. Every Thursday during summer months, join us for Out To Lunch—a lively gathering with live music and food vendors in the Great Northern Town Center. Dedicated to creating wholesome fun for all ages, the Great Northern Carousel invites everyone to spin back time and create memories that last a lifetime. Experience the magic of Montana's finest Carousel.
